Families and individuals today experience unprecedented stressors which can potentially impact the quality of their connections with each other and with themselves. Common disconnecting stressors are:

• Family disruptions through foster care placements, adoption, hospitalization, immigration, and incarceration.
• Parental stressors such as substance abuse, depression, financial difficulties, and domestic violence.
• Trauma of any type experienced by any or all members of the family.
• Parental expectations clashing with their child's talents and capabilities.
• Divorce and / or separation's impact on families.

Disconnection within the family contributes to and exacerbates significant childhood problems and concerns. Some of these include:

Working with Families

Susan works with all types of family constellations including blended, multicultural, same sex, divorced and separated. She works with ages ranging from infancy through adulthood.

Through extensive training, including live supervision and daily clinical practice with a variety of family situations, Susan relies on a variety of empirically based methods to help families re-establish and strengthen their connections.

Working with Individuals

Susan relies heavily on elements of attachment theory to treat individuals who are suffering from a variety of concerns. Some of these include:
